Art and Ambition: How Deveshwari Siddhu is turning passion into profession
Deveshwari Siddhu’s journey from the quiet hills of Berinag to the academic halls of Almora is a story of resilience, creative passion, and the unwavering support of family. A 2025 graduate of Himalaya Inter College (HIC), Chaukori, Deveshwari is currently a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at Sobhan Singh Jeena University, Almora.
Growing up in a single-parent family, Deveshwari has witnessed her mother work tirelessly as a contract employee to support her family. This foundation of hard work has instilled a deep sense of discipline in Deveshwari, which she demonstrated at HIC by earning her ‘B’ certificate as a cadet in the National Cadet Corps (NCC). She received a scholarship from Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF) that helped pursue studies at HIC. Her brother cleared Intermediate board exams recently.

For Deveshwari, art is a vital means for self-expression and creativity. She moved to Almora to immerse herself in her BFA studies, valuing the city’s facilities and opportunities while maintaining the peaceful, nature-loving spirit of her village upbringing. Her approach to her personal development is reflected in her lifestyle choices and interests. She consciously avoids social media to remain focused on her craft.
With a clear goal to become a teacher, Deveshwari intends to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) to further refine her skills. She is passionate about using her education to give back, hoping to raise awareness in hill communities about art, culture, and environmental cleanliness. Deveshwari finds guidance in her favorite book, "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, painting and listening to the music of Atif Aslam. She also enjoys the thrill of the horror genre, citing "The Conjuring" as her favorite movie.
Deveshwari remains a proud HIC alumnus, often recalling the joy of participating in school functions with her friends. Her advice for HIC Students: “Study sincerely, stay confident, and make good memories in school” . We at HEF wish Deveshwari a great artistic career and a bright future filled with joy and peace.
