Choosing a career in Nursing : Manshi’s mission for better healthcare in the hills
Growing up in Pankhu village, near Chaukori in the Himalayan region, Manshi always had a deep connection to the mountains. Life in the hill country meant fresh, peaceful air, awe inspiring natural views, and a close-knit community. After graduating from Himalaya Inter College (HIC) in 2025, Manshi took a big step forward, moving to Haridwar to turn her passion for science into a career in healthcare.
Following her father's passing, Manshi’s mother secured a government job, working hard to support the family and inspiring Manshi’s own strong work ethic. A scholarship from Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF) helped her study at HIC, Chaukori.
Today, Manshi is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Care College of Nursing in Haridwar. While she misses the quiet charm and cool weather of her hometown, moving to the city opened up a whole new world of educational and professional opportunities.She isn't navigating college life alone—her elder brother is with her at the same institution, studying for a Bachelor of Pharmacy.
Manshi’s interest in healthcare started early, fueled by her fascination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. But for her, nursing is about much more than just science; it’s about providing genuine, high-quality care to people when they need it most. As an active member of her college’s nursing student group, she gets involved in academic events and helps run health awareness drives in local communities. Looking ahead, she wants to master emergency and critical care, patient assessment, and clinical skills, with plans to eventually pursue an M.Sc. in Nursing.
Having grown up in the hills, Manshi understands the everyday struggles rural communities face—from fragile roads and landslides to a lack of proper healthcare and reliable internet. She hopes to use her nursing background to give back to her native village. Her goal is to run health awareness programs, educate families on cleanliness and sanitation, and help locals get better access to basic medical services.
When she isn't busy with classes or clinical rounds, Manshi likes to unwind like any other college student. She loves playing volleyball, scrolling through social media, listening to Arijit Singh tracks, and watching movies—with 3 Idiots being her favorite. She’s also a fan of poetry, frequently turning to Rupi Kaur’s The Sun and Her Flowers. On weekends, she enjoys taking short trips to explore nearby spots like Rishikesh and Dehradun.
Looking back on her time at HIC, Manshi cherishes memories of celebrating festivals, going on school trips, and hanging out with her closest friends and teachers. She leaves current HIC students with a bit of heartfelt advice:
"Study sincerely, make the most of every opportunity, and respect your teachers. Participate in activities, build strong communication and leadership skills, and stay focused on your goals—but don't forget to enjoy your student life while it lasts!"
