We are happy to let you know that Chandrashekhar Lohani has joined Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course with specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI and DS) at Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun. He was a HEF scholarship recipient, who graduated from Himalayan Inter College (HIC), Chaukori in 2024. He is a native of Kausani, a beautiful hill station that attracts tourists and nature lovers. Let’s learn more about Chandra and his life journey.

-----------

Hi, Chandra. Welcome to Himalayan Voices. It's wonderful to hear you're pursuing a course in Artificial Intelligence. It must have been quite a long journey from your village to Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand state. Let's start by learning a bit about your family.

Chandra: I'm an only child. My father works in the private sector, and my mother is a homemaker.

What are your subjects of interest, and how did you develop an interest in them?

Chandra: I've always been drawn to Math and Science. I've been studying these subjects since the beginning of my schooling, which is why I'm so interested in them.

What higher studies or skills would you like to acquire? What career do you ideally aspire to?

Chandra: I want to pursue a Master's in Computer Applications. After that, my ideal career would be to join the Indian Air Force, and I'm actively preparing for it.

That's great. What do you like about your native place, Kausani?

Chandra: I'm truly happy living in the hills; it feels like heaven. The environment and atmosphere are incredibly nice. It's less crowded than cities, and the people in hilly areas are very kind-hearted. We get to enjoy the breathtaking views of mountains like Nanda Devi, Panchachuli, and many other snow-capped peaks. I love my native place very much.

Tell me, what do you like about living in the city?

Chandra: Cities offer a lot of benefits. If you're unwell, you can reach a hospital in 10 to 15 minutes. Also, if you want to order food or anything else, you can get it in minutes or hours, which is incredibly helpful.

What do you do in your leisure time?

Chandra: I love playing cricket and mobile games like BGMI. I also enjoy exploring new places. Going to the gym is important to me; I want to stay physically fit. In the future, when I'm financially stable, I plan to explore all the states in India and some foreign countries too.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Chandra: If I have free time, I usually watch movies or spend time with my friends. Spending time with friends or family truly helps me relax and clears my mind.

What's your favorite book or movie?

Chandra: My favorite web series is Stranger Things, and my favorite book is Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Do you listen to music? If so, who are your favorite musicians?

Chandra: I love the One Direction band and the famous Punjabi singer Karan Aujila.

Do you travel often? Where have you been, and what did you enjoy about those places?

Chandra: I love traveling! The last place I visited was Bhimtal in Uttarakhand. Hilly places are incredibly beautiful; their beauty is truly hard to express in words, as there's so much to see. Nature is simply amazing.

What are some of the challenges faced by hill communities?

Chandra: The main challenges for hilly communities are a lack of hospitals, good schools nearby, and unemployment. These are also the primary reasons why people from the hills are migrating to cities, as they desire a brighter future for their children, which they believe isn't possible in the hill areas.

What does your village need to improve the lives of its residents?

Chandra: I believe a well-equipped and staffed hospital and a good school are essential.

How would you like to contribute to the betterment of your native village or area?

Chandra: I want to counsel children in my village so they can achieve something in their lives. People from villages or rural areas often lack awareness about the wider world. I want to create awareness about opportunities in the modern world, such as eco-tourism and sustainable development.

What's your favorite memory from HIC?

Chandra: I have so many happy memories there! My friends and I had a lot of fun. One of my favorite memories is when my friends and I went on a school-conducted tour to Nainital in 2023. I truly enjoyed the trip and had a great time with my friends. School life isn't just about studies; it's also about enjoying different experiences.

What advice would you give to current HIC students?

Chandra: My advice is to be aware of your unique inner qualities and build self-confidence. Life will have its ups and downs, but don't feel sad; get up and do what feels right for you and your future. Embrace failure as a learning experience and don't let it discourage you. The important thing is to cultivate good habits and acquire the necessary skills to face life's challenges.

Thank you, Chandra. We at Himalayan Education Foundation are proud of your achievements and wish you great success in your career and life as well. All the best!
