Program Details
In a region where subsistence farming is the way of life for so many, the annual income may be as little as $200 a year. Affording education for a child in a family becomes a lower priority than survival. Also, in many rural communities, traditionally that priority goes to the boy first, not the girl. Himalaya Public School in Chaukori is one institution that is slowly trying to change this.
Although the school itself runs on a bare-bones budget, it often subsidizes education for those who cannot afford it. It does so by taking heartbreaking steps such delaying the creation of a library or by the teachers going without salaries voluntarily for months at a time.
This foundation is trying to help the school via a program called “Educate One More Child” - where you, the donor, can sponsor a child’s education for as little as $100 - which provides a year’s worth of tuition and supplies for a child!
Many of our donor families like to connect with the child they are sponsoring, which we will gladly do! This will allow you to correspond with the child, be a mentor for them and perhaps someday visit them on your trip to the beautiful Himalayan mountains in India!
